walk on -- breathe clean air again. >> now 51 years old he was wrongly convicted of a shooting that took place just steps from where his mother now lives. the victim picked ross out of a photo line-up and later recanted and new evidence also came to light. a judge set him free. >> one time i was thinking that the judge was just, you know, being hate full towards me. but i guess now that i see he's doing his job the same way as the d. a.. >> the northern california "innocence project" and attorneys with a san francisco law firm spent four years clearing his name. >> he spent seven years in system for something he didn't do. the adversarial system let him down. but it was with the cooperation of the district attorney's office that we got the results. >> his mother couldn't contain herself. >> i haven't felt like this all my life. >> he gave up hope in the beginning but family visits changed that and he was able to

work through his anger. he had this to say about the police and jury who put him in san quentin. >> i hope they do a better investigation on the job they have. look down deep inside and see is it really the person that has committed a crime or hasn't committed a crime? >> he plans to counsel troubled youth. he would not answer questions about whether he plans to file a lawsuit against the oakland police department or anyone else. the da office who prosecuted the case put out a press release saying his office has a commitment to truth and justice that never waivers. >>. >> there's a four hour special meeting yesterday. the board did not say why grant was put on leave but on thursday the state revoked the credentials of district teacher dina holder who was convicted of kicking a student with autism three years ago. >> a man who parents trusted with their children is now accused of violating that trust.

jason pedroza, an east bay acting teacher and performer, has been arrested on suspicion of child molestation. we have the story from walnut creek. >> he's played a clown on stage in beauty and the beast. they have charged 27-year-old jason pedroza of preying on least one victim. >> a juvenile and her parents came to the police department and reported mr. pedroza was sending inappropriate text messages to the young female. a three-month long investigation revealed several times. >> he was charged with two misdemeanors and two felonies including child molestation. he's worked there as an accounting instructor and worked as a clerk and caught in prof classes at the downtown ballet school in walnut creek. he was fired a month ago when they learned he was under investigation. parents were shocked to learn

about the charges. >> as a teacher one of their main goals is to protect the children so that it is very scary to me. >> tonight we learned that pedroza spent years working with kids. we confirmed he was a coach here in south san francisco and he was a swim teacher in san bruno. he hasn't worked at either place in years and police have not mentioned any connection to possible crimes on the peninsula, but walnut creek police do say they are looking for information from more possible victims. pedroza has already posted bail so we stopped which his family home. we found his car parked outside but no one ever answered the door. walnut creek police are asking parents to talk with their children if they happened to have contact with pedroza in the last several months. if they have any suspicions, they should call police. abc7 news. new this morning, a memorial

roaral concert to help raise money in petaluma college student alyssa byrne. she attended a concert and then was found dead about a half mile away from the venue. they are raising funds to buy a memorial bench bearing her name. they have booked 7 bay area rappers to perform tonight at the phoenix theater. a force of the funds raised about be donated to the of a foundation to fund a new buddy program. mc hammer was arrested thursday night and booked in the jail in dublin. hammer made bail. dublin police are not giving any details about the arrest or any pending charges. the white house has formally jumped into the same-sex marriage debate. late yesterday oat obama administration filed a legal brief with the u.s. supreme court urges justices to strike down the federal defense of marriage act which defines

marriage as only between a man and a woman. the move is not a surprise but when abc7 news anchor dan ashley asked president obama about this issue wednesday during his exclusive one-on-one interview with him at the white house, the president was noncommittal, saying that he needed to confer with the solicitor general about the proper legal strategy they should take. the supreme court is set to take up the same-sex marriage issue in late march. members of the a high school band from crockett are looking for help to find the burglars who ripped off the band room this week. several thousand of musical instruments and electronics were stolen sometime between 6:00 p.m. tuesday and 6:00 a.m. wednesday. the school is asking people to be on the lookout for musical items on sale on the internet. two dozen young athletes from a high school returned from the trip of a lifetime. they went to cuba to play baseball. they are perhaps the first american high school team to travel there and play begins their cuban counter parts.

kenzo estates overlacks the napa valley. dew bought the sprawling 3800-acre property 13 years ago. he spared no invest investing $100 million to build the state of the art winery. he replanted vineyards with the finest grapes on 90 acres and he hired the best people in the business to make his wines. last year kenzo estates bottled 11,000 cases but wine lovers here will probably never taste them. that's because 80% of the wine is ex-supported to japan, each bottle selling between 80 and $250. even at those prices there's a huge demand for premium wines from japan's big middle class. yao ming started his boutique winery two years ago. he leases vineyards and production space here at this cuss symptom crush facility in saint helilaw. it is a small operation,

producing about 4,000 cases of his sauvignon and the cabernet. >> it ends up being $280, half of which is tax and the family reserve ends up being about $625. >> even at $625 a bottle, yao ming has no problem selling his wine in china. in 2004 wine imparts to china totaled $53 million. just six years later it grew to $800 million. for tsujimuto, video games and wine making is not dissimilar. >> they have to be local, be enjoyed by everybody in the world and have to have a good creator and a good content enjoyed by the consumer. so very similar, in my opinion. >> for yao ming, basketball and wine making may also have something in common.

making a success of it in the growing china market will be a slam dunk. vic lee, abc7 news. san jose will vote tuesday whether to become the largest city in the country to ban styrofoam. council members joined environmental groups to encourage a switch to alternative food packaging. the california restaurant association said the ban would harm small businesses in the city. they said food packaging accounts for less than 1% of waste in landfills. oakland's lake merit is going through a makeover. it's celebrating the opening of a channel that's been closed more than 150 years. it will allow boaters in the old effort wildlife preservation to once again paddle from the a lake to san francisco bay. a 750-foot section of the channel was opened yesterday for the first time since the 1860. the city will hold a public celebration for this and other lake merit improvements later this summer.

cover, it will be mild with temperatures in a narrow range. the cool spot you notice gilroy at 44. elsewhere we are be looking at cooler numbers to the north in santa rosa, 40. but we should stay from about 40 to the lower 50s this morning. as you head on out you may need the jacket because it is a bit on the wet side. this will continue to wish to the south. so with a few sprinkles in the forecast this morning it will become breezy and sunny this afternoon. the warmer day of the weekend will be tomorrow. once again, an extended dry period. it looks like the entire work week, upcoming work week, as we round out february, will be dry. friday begins march and also dry. look the cloud cover, how warm we are this morning. warmer than yesterday. 14 degrees warmer than yesterday in napa and fairfield. 11 degrees warmer on the coast and visibility right now not such of a problem. five miles san jose. so here's a look at that front. it's a weak one, mainly associated cloud cover and and that low level moisture will

continue to push to the the south of us. as it does, behind it we will get that northerly wind flow. that continues to bring the dryer air. scour out the cloud cover and bring that sunshine. so here's the forecast animation. note it's 5:00 this morning. the cloud cover, a few sprinkles hanging into the south bay, the santa cruz mountains, and by 10:00 we will see the sunshine in the north bay. the northwesterly win will keep it breezy at our coast and we will looking at temperatures around the bay mild but in the southern part of california, still pretty warm with 68 there in los angeles. back home 60 in morgan hill today. 59 in mountain view and upper 50s from pacifica and san francisco. breezy, but by the evening hours the chinese new year parade looks nice with temperatures dropping in the 60s. 62 in the north bay and sonoma and 60 oakland. east bay, looking at numbers in the 40s. a nice afternoon. a damp start out there to get your saturday going but then we will look at more sunshine,

>> pg&e is responding to pressure to test it's entire system by launching a new generation of wireless pipeline robots. allen wong takes us on a ride through a pg&e gas pipeline to see how crews are detecting the same problems that led to the deadly san bruno explosion two years ago. >> prior to the wireless robots, pg&e engineers had no way of detecting small fractures or weak welds until there was a leak. >> this line runs under a creekbed. we would have to dam the creek

live doppler hd was the rain falling beneath the radar beam. not much is being picked up on it but as you head out there you have the wipers that are needed and the camp pavement. do be careful. starting out with the clouds and sprinkles this morning. temperatures with the cloud cover, mild upper 50s to the lower 50s. but by about 10:00 we will see the moisture lift and have sunshine with a cool northerly flow so that will allow for numbers in the upper 50s to mid-60s. maybe a couple degrees cooler than yesterday. for the chinese new year's parade tonight it's looking fine with numbers in the 50s. dropping through the lower 50s throughout the afternoon. so starting out with the mist and drizzle, becoming sunny, and really our dry pattern looks like it's going to once again take hold and take us through the rest of february. i'll explain later when i show you my seven-day outlook. katie. >> thank you. this morning you have a chance to help a family that lost a little girl in the newtown, connecticut shooting, and at the same time you would be helping

group called protect our children. new this morning, governors from across the nation of meeting in washington for the annual winter meeting of the annual governors association. yesterday democratic governors condemned the stalemate in congress. this morning president obama's weekly address urges congressional republicans to approve his plenty of targeted savings and tax increases. the president says the so-called sequester will slow the economy and hurt the middle class. >> are republicans in congress really willing to let these cuts fall on our kids' schools and mental healthcare just to protect loopholes for corporate jet owners? are they willing to splashboarder patrol because they refuse to eliminate tax breaks for big oil company? are they seriously want to inflict more pain on the middle class because they refuse to ask more from those at the very top?

time for your forecast. tell me we have something to look forward to today. >> we tipped the precip. as you head out this morning certainly on the damp side in the south bay as a weak frontal bank continues to press to the south of us. so a look at live doppler 7hd and you will notice that it really isn't picking up much and that's because the moisture is falling beneath the radar beam. but as we go in a little closer you notice a couple returns here in and around the santa clara valley. that's are we have most of the wet pavement. it's already clear in the north bay and also out by the delta. here's a look outside where it's pretty quiet downtown with temperatures on the mild side with lower 40s up in petaluma. near 50 in san francisco and 51 oakland with 48 in san jose and 46 in livermore. another vantage point of the bay bridge this morning. yeah, you might be surprised to see -- as you head out and see how much moisture there is out

there. it's pretty significance. considering we've had such a dry february. upper 40s for the most part around fairfield and concord with 41 in santa rosa. that lasts throughout the early part of the morning hours. then by about 10:00 we will break out into mostly sunny conditions. we have the clouds and sprinkles early on. brighter for the afternoon with the warmest day of the weekend tomorrow and an extended dry period once again. with the cloud cover, boy, is it mild out there in spots with 11 degrees warmer than yesterday half moon bay and as much as 14 degrees warmer up in the north. with all the cloud cover you would think visibility, yeah, it is a factor out there with the wipers and slick roadways. but in terms of to go, a 6-mile visibility down around san jose. there's the front continuing to limp on to the south. as it does it takes the moisture with it. the winds are kind of gusty right now in the upper elevations. we are looking at a west wind along the coast and they will turn more to the north later on today. here's a look at the computer
